Symposium ‘Why the World Needs Anthropologists?’

On 4th and 5th November 2016 an international symposium ‘Why the World Needs Anthropologists: Humanise IT!’ will take place in Tartu, organised on our initiative. The aim of the event is to bring together the specialists of different fields and also those interested in anthropology to jointly discuss the possibilities of cooperating with cultural scholars in different fields. Earlier the ‘Why the World Needs Anthropologists’ has taken place in Amsterdam (2013), Padua (2014) and Ljubljana (2015). The central theme of the symposium is the question of what kind of benefit anthropologists can bring to the society more broadly and what the opportunities to act outside of the academia are. The last conference in Ljubljana with the subtitle ‘Burning issues of our hot planet’ primarily focused on the theme of environment, but also touched the intersection of technology and anthropology that is in the focus of the symposium held in Tartu in autumn 2016.
